K1500 4.3 to 5.7 ECU questions.
I have a 2000 K1500 which originally had a 4.3 and was swapped to a 2002 5.7 (including full donor vehicle harness etc as required) by my used car dealer friend. (I got it cheap enough to part it out when he retired.)
I've seen it run previously but then it sat for a couple of years before I got it. Did the 30-minute relearn and the security light cleared but it still behaves as if VATS has disabled the vehicle. Fuel pressure ck'd good at the rail and the ignition fires. I didn't have a noid light which fits but will get one.
I'd like to ensure the engine computer is optimally programmed and I have no use for VATS so even if it's not the culprit I want it gone.
I'd like to order a used engine computer programmed for a 5.7 with VATS deleted.
What sources do you recommend and is there anything else I should ask for if I spec a tune?
It has stock exhaust with cats removed. No need for emission compliance where I live.
Is there a specific reason for programming the engine computer with the vehicles VIN (I don't have that info for the donor)? I could care less about originality. I'm new to this style Chevy truck but not new to wrenching.
Thanks in advance!
