Default Looking at 06 or 07 Silverado's as my next truck

Hey guys,

Sold my Canyon a while back for an Envoy. Love driving it but I miss my truck bed more. Should have just bought a bigger truck then.

Anyway, I'm looking at used 06-07 Silverado's. I like the style of both, probably the new style more, but that isn't a huge deal for me.

Are there any reasons I should consider one over the other?
Should I look fo a 4.8 or 5.3 v8? I tow a couple ATV's and snowmobiles, but nothing crazy.
What are some common problems to these vehicles?
What should I look for when kicking the tires on some used ones in my area?

Thanks a ton.

That's funny. I've got an 04, and what with TPMS and all the other fancy new innovations in the newer trucks,

I'm looking for a '76 or '77. Can you tell me anything about them?

buy an 07 cuz they all have a fully transferable 100,000 mile warranty. The engine size doesn't really matter unless u want to run E85 gas. The 4.8 doesn't run on it.

I personally dont like the look of the new chevy, id go gmc if you are looking for an 07 and up.

def. go with the 5.3, the 4.8 is a joke motor esp. if you are going to tow at all. if you go with an 06, try to find one with 3.73 or 4.10 gears. GM mostly put 3.42's in and there is little to no mpg increase vs having a slightly lower ratio which is better for towing and performance.

you can either get a 295hp 5.3 or a 310hp 5.3, look in the glove box at the rpo codes and see, an L59/LM7 code is the 295hp (L59 denoating E85 capable) and L33 denotes 310hp HO 5.3. the 8th letter of the vin can tell you also but the only one i know for sure is "Z" is the E85 motor and "N" is the HO 6.0 thats in the vortec max and SS trucks of that body style.

the 06 still had issues with the intermediate shaft, but gm finally came out with an updated part that takes care of the problem, just ask and check to see if it had been replaced or not.

in the 07's you get Active Fuel management that supposedly increases mpg but the few people that i know that have them arent getting much more than my previous 06's 14.5mpg in the city.

from what ive read/heard/seen, the 07+ cloth interiors are hard to keep clean IE. lint/dog hair.

the new 5.3 gets 315hp and 338 lb ft of trq, vs the previous 295/310hp and 335lb ft of trq. both an 06 and 07 should have electric fans.

either way, id say get whatever you can get the best deal on and that you like the best.

good luck.

Exactly what I was looking for bad2006z71, thanks. I agree with you on the looks of the new vehicles, though I like the GMC's.

If anyone else has input please let me know.
