Default Looking for advice on 2007 truck

Hey everyone, I've got a few questions about a 2007 Silverado I'm looking at purchasing. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2007 Silverado 1500 LT extended cab, pretty basic no amenities, but just a clean, good looking truck. It has the 4.8 v8, base alloy wheels, a 4.10 rear end, and currently no hitch (yet). It has 45,000 miles, and I can purchase it for around $15,500...or can get the same thing GM certified preowned with the warranties etc. for 2k more.

According to a few sites the drive line/transmission is a problem in these trucks, how does that compare with what you guys see on these forums? If its indeed a problem area, the $2k GM certified preowned is about the cost of a potential transmission replacement. Also, how is the 4.8? I know nothing about its history besides the fact that its a vortec, and is "supposed" to last a long time.

Also, the non certified truck has a few little qwerks, the gauge lights don't work at at night, the drivers side back window button won't roll it up, and the stereo won't pan to the rear speakers. From looking at the engine, the coolant and fluids appear to be factory original, so they would need to be changed, along with probably a tune up.

This would be a truck I'd use for a year to do some projects, and then look at reselling with no more than 55,000 miles on it.

I'm a huge Land Rover guy, and forums have helped me out so much on my land rover, so I really appreciate you guys' insight on this! We'd like to do a deal on either truck in the next day or so!

if those few things don't bother you and you're only gonna keep it a year or so then i'd go with it...the 4.8 is a good motor, lacks a little compared to the bigger motors gm offers but still reliable. The tranny isn't bad, just people will dog the hell out of there trucks and not think of the consequences...it'll easily last to 200,000k on the clock with proper maintenance. Hell my 01 5.3 has 195k on the clock and I don't have to worry about anything

^^^ +1

I loved the 4.8 in my truck, it is a little less power, but for what you'd do with it I'd say you wouldn't have a problem. And I have 150K on my tranny and still going, even with my new 6.0l motor. The trucks really are bulletproof. But as with any company, there are good ones and bad ones.

This is probably too late, but I have to express how much I love my 2000 4.8L has over 280,000 and still going. Passed it to my daughter when I bought the 2007. (the 07' has the drive line problem too, but now that i've come back to this website, i found a thread on it and am relieved)
