looking at buying a 1999 1500 Silverado Z71 reg cab short bed
There is a nice looking 1999 1500 Silverado Z71 reg cab short bed, that over all looks decent with 140K for $5500 locally it has the 5.3L v8 4x4, Hunter green.
I am really leaning toward this truck, I had a 1997 z71 4x4 5.7ci that had only 80k a couple of years ago.
I am not familiar with the 99' 1500 Z71 or the 5.3l engine & auto trans in this truck can they go the long miles like the 97' did without putting in a lot of money, or is the older 97' a better truck.
anyone have on suggestions?
Im hoping this is a good truck
thanks in advance

Hey man, they are also a good truck, same transmission and everything. Usually the first thing that will go on these newer trucks is the rearend. The engines are good from what I've heard. I personally think the older ones are a bit better but this sounds like a good truck

I have a 99 Silverado K-1500 with 5.3 V8 with 220,000 miles on it. I bought it last November(2012) for $3000 and have had no problems with is so far. Last winter we had one day where it got down to -20 degrees. Being retired I didn't have to worry about going to work but went out, from my nice warm bed I might add, just to see how it would start. It popped right off with no problem and purred like a kitten. It's also a 4 wheel drive. I guess I do have a problem with it as it won't go into 4 wheel low. 4 wheel high and 4 wheel auto work great so I'm not too concerned with 4 wheel low. I don't go anywhere that I need it, at least not yet. LOL
All in all I'm very happy with it.

Thanks to all that replied,
I ended up buying that Hunter Green Chevy Z71 Truck for $5K, It is in VERY GOOD Condition!!!!!
I received a compliment from a woman when I was going in to a store she said that it was a Really nice looking truck and complimented a few times at how nice the truck looked.
I did all maintenance on it, replaced all fluids to Synthetic, RR plugs and plug wires, repaired everything that was not functional, mirror switches, Under hood light, new fog lights, new DRL lamps
toothpaste on all head lights and tail lights to clean them and to a clear lenses.
Cleaned Throttle body, PCV, MAF, EGR.
replaced all shocks with KYB's
brake inspection and replaced/evacuate all brake fluid
rotated tires
Everything works
She runs really good, I am very pleased with this truck
