Looking in getting cold air intake and headers
I have a 2001 5.3 Silverado I was wondering what the best kind of intake there is for it and also difference between shorty and long tube headers. I currently have a flowmaster super 10 muffler and a 2.5in cutout dumped before the muffler. I want to make my truck sound louder than it already is. I cannot remove the cats because I live in California. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated thank you

you can spend 130 on a airaid MIT kit(just the intake tube) and put a k&n filter in your stock airbox and see the same gains as a 300 CAI...i've done it. And headers for you will be tricky since you live in Cali with all the emissions testin yall have. I'd look up some mid length headers, definitely not shorties. That'd be a $300 mistake. Mid- length headers will allow you to keep the cats without cuttin and weldin i do believe, i don't think there's many longtubes that are Cali friendly. But if you want get Longtubes (LPP is a nice choice) and do some fab work on it so you can use your cats with it

Take a look at if you have any sensors waaaay down the tube toward the CAT.
I have a CA truck, but I dont have 1/2 the sensors on it that should be there
so lucky me.

I know im gonna be flamed for this but I would stay away from K&N or any cai for that matter. When I had my K&N cai I was cleaning under the hood one day and decided I would blow the filter out, when I took the filter off I was amazed at how much dust/dirt that was inside the cai tube as well as the tb.
Our stock airboxes provide more than enough air for our engines, when I first done my cai I could have swore my truck had more power then I changed it back factory and it was the same. The air temp isn't going to change because of the tube or filter you have, the reason being is your engine sucks the air in way to fast for it to ever cool it off also with a cai your sucking hot air from under the hood, where as Volant or the stocker get air from the outside.
Sorry for the rant, I try to keep people from making the mistakes I have.
