Looking at a K1500...
Hey guys,
First off, sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place. I'm a pretty big noob when it comes to Chevy trucks (or any truck for that matter). I own a BMW 740iL that I just recently wrecked and I need something to get me to and from work until I can afford either a bike or another BMW (call me a fanboy
).
Anyway, I found a 1990 K1500 with a 350 and a 5 speed on craigslist for $1200. According to the ad, it needs the rear cab mount rewelded to pass inspection. How much should I expect a shop to charge me to fix this? Also, what should I look for when I go to look at it? I consider myself a shade tree mechanic so I know my way around an engine, I was just wondering if there were any common issues to look out for.
Also, considering the car is in decent condition, is $1200 a good price?
Thanks in advance.

Hi AwesomeIsLuke,
Welcome to the Chevy Forums.
The 5.7 (350 Cu. In.)is a pretty good all around workhorse, as engines go.
The welding should cost right around 150$, maybe a little more. I'd avoid a cheap job for something this important.
Pricewise, while pickup trucks start out closer to the bottom of the pile, there is a certain point where they start to retain value a little more than other vehicles. IMO, 1200$ for a full size, half ton, 4WD, Chevy pickup, with a 350 engine is about as close to the bone as it gets.
