Default Lowering my 1989 Chevy C1500

I need help knowing what I should do to lower my 1989 C1500 Extended Cab 2WD. I'd like to achieve a 2" Front 4" Rear drop. Because I still use my truck to haul on ocassion--I need to work with something that doesn't completely abandon my ability to use the truck under some weighted loads.

I've been doing a lot of research and have found that I can go spring/shock combo or a spindle for the front. What are the pros and cons of each?

Also, for the rear--I've looked into the Firestone airshock system offerred through BellTech, shackle/hanger combos and spring/shock combos...

I have no idea what the most effective options are here.

Ideas or opinions?

If you have the bucks a drop spindle is the way to go for the front. The rear is a toss up because any way you go your going to lose some of your ride by stiffening up the rear with Air Shock or bag systems. Just stay away from blocking the rearend if you can. Good Luck!

BlasterHappy71--Thanks for the input. I understand for the rear that there's a way to use a shackle and hanger to modify the rear leaf's position to get a 4" drop. If I did this, would I have to modify anything else in the rear-end to accomodate this change?

4 inches is about the max you can go without having to deal with bump stops and drive shaft binding. You should be ok.

Here's an easy way to get a two inch drop on the rear end which will level the Silverado (it is high in back when not loaded.) I talked with Bell tech advisor who told me by using their lowering shackles and taking out the over load spring, I could get two or more inch drop. Since I do not use the truck for hauling, the overload isn't needed. I had a mechanic do it and it rides okay with no noticeable difference. j. jnsn
