Default muffeler?

I have a 1988 chevy cheyene (305) and the tailpipe just fell off and the mechanic I now wants $600 to replace it. Now I have been looking around and a mufeler isn't that much and there is a auto craft place on post so I want to do it myself. I just don't know which muffeler to get. I can't find cheyene anywhere. Does anyone know which model I can use to get the results i want which is the correct parts. Or just point me in the direction of a mufeler I can use.
Thanks Paul

how loud do you want your truck to be? most guys on here go with the 40 series, super 44, or 50 series. the 50 series is a mild tone the 44 is louder then the 50 and the 40 is louder then both. personally i have an 04 1500 5.3 with a 10 series race muffler from flowmaster and it is very loud. just a suggestion tho.

Which series gives a nice throaty burble at the tailpipe without too much interior noise?
