Default My Chevy Transmission...

I recently lost reverse in my 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500. I checked around on cost to fix/replace it and got figures from $800 to $3000. I still every the other gears, it drives fine, just no reverse. Should I replace it? Or is there some other way to fix it without spending so much? Please help! I miss my Chevy truck!

I know the newer transmission are not like the ones I use to work on but I've seen this happen when the filter is plugged up and the fluid is burnt. You probably have already checked this but I thought I would mention it.
