Default NBS silverado brake pads durability

I am just wondering if is there any sensor that will inform when is time to change the brake pads...
does any one knows if it has a sensor or just the metal noise clip on the pads?

They do not make brake pads with that metal peice in them anymore that tells you when your pad is getting low, I was told this by a mechanic at my dealership. And there is no sensor. You just have to check them.
