I have an 89 K1500 with a 4" lift and 20" wheels and my braking ability sucks. The truck has the standard duty brakes and is all new. I can't find a big brake kitfor it. Anysuggestions??

Im all for upgrading brakes w/large tires but, are you sure it is the extra wheel/tire weight? Should be very hard pedal if so. Not soft, low, etc.

Thanks for the replies! I'm looking into putting 1 ton calipers on it, along with a heavy 1/2 rear set up.

The extra torque you put on the rotors/drums with the bigger "footprint" is comparable to putting a two foot cheater pipe on a rachet. The diameter of the rotor/drum should increase at the same rate as the tire/wheel size for the system to work properly. Even doing that, the brake mounting apparatus isn't engineered for the extra strain.

Of course, the manufacturers love it when you make those kind of changes. It keeps them out of the liability loop if there's ever a problem........
