Am looking at purchasing a new 2012 2500HD, crew cab, 4x4, with the 6.0L Vortec engine, 6 speed tranny, and 3.73 locking rear diff..

just looking for any ideas on known issues with these trucks, or items to watch out for.. also any suggestions of what i may be able to do to prevent any of these problems from the start..thanks!

I hear the new 6 speeds have trouble every now and then but not that often. Depends in how you drive it

gas mileage stinks. i drive 4 miles to work, 3 lights and get 10 or less mpg. on the high way it realy varies quit a bit. i drive about 300 miles to my camp and i have gotten from 12 to 16.5 mpg. i also have a snowmobile drive in and out 5000 gvw trailer and when i brought it to camp i got 8 mpg. snow plowing got 5 mpg. i am trying to find out how a diesel will work out in mpg. i should have done more reserch before buying. last time i filled up i went 83 miles put in 8.3 gallons, one week of driving. i got about 9500 miles on my 2011 2500hd club cab short bed z71.

Thanks for the information.. As far as how its driven or gas mileage, it is somewhat of a concern but not major.. I say this because i drive a total of 1700 miles a year to/from work, and may put a total of 8,000 miles a year on a truck now, which includes a couple fishing tournaments towing a boat 300 miles each way.. The current truck gets 8-10 mpg while towing so i guess it won't be much different.. The other option was an offer on a new Ram 1500 crew cab 4x4 for same money as the 2500 HD, and maybe i am wrong but i dont see the Ram 1500 doing much better mpg wise when i'm towing, and not sure its worth the extra mpg's just for limited work mileage..

thanks again for the information

Make sure that when you go to test drive you take the truck to 55-65 MPH I did alot of reading into these new chevys and some once you really get moving some of them will shake/vibrate really bad and so far it seems like alot of the dealerships are just giving the customer the run around. there is a thread on here and not more then a few pages back and its got alot of talk about this issue with the 2011-2012 trucks
