Default New member, and question about radio

Hey guys, i'm brand new to the forum! Seems to be a great place! I have a question. I recently purchased a 2006 Silverado. It doesn't have XM I don't think..but I would like to get XM. Is it possible with the existing radio unit I have in the truck? I do not have OnStar either....i'm not sure what all info is needed to answer my question. Thanks for the help in advance!

That radio will not fit your truck. It is out of a New Body Style Silverado. You have a Classic Body Style. I Believe if you have a cd player in the truck, and can add XM to it. Its not a matter of replacing the radio, but adding the XM components to it. You need to see the dealer about and XM upgrade kit. Also if you do not have OnStar, you will be drilling a hole in the roof to mount the XM antenna.

Has anyone tried this? I wouldn't imagine it being to hard, except maybe the drilling of the holes in the roof and then having to take the headliner down. Can anyone give me any insight on this? Also, anyone know a price range i'm looking at?

I don't rememebr the price, but its in the $200-400 range somewhere. It comes with a template for drilling the hole in the roof, so you have to make sure you line it up straight, then the rest it easy. Drop the headliner a bit to run the antenna wire, mount the Digital Radio Reciever(DRR)(XM Module) behind the glove compartment, and run a harness to the radio and attach it to the stock harness(uses a "Y" adaptor)

went to the dealer on the way to work, and they gave me some type of run around saying that I had to talk to the salesman, and then the salesman said go to parts...so...i'm trying to find a kit on the internet somewhere....plus probably cheaper that way... problem is, i can't find a factory kit anywhere...and nothing i find is for a 2006 silverado.
