Nice Trip To FL From MN
Went to Pensacola Florida area with my son for two weeks with the 99 Silverado to trailer a 2008 Honda SilverWing scooter back. I purchased it from my sister who hadn't ridden it for about two years.
The truck ran great and we were getting in the high 15 mpg with it and even hit low 16 mpg a few tanks. The only problem I had with the truck was to get the high pressure power steering hose replaced and have Uhaul fix the wiring on the trailer light socket. The right brake light didn't work on the harness and they found the break and soldered and heat shrunk it back together. No problems since. The truck now has about 228,000 miles on it and still doesn't burn oil. There are a couple of small oil leaks which are kind of expected. It still doesn't use a quart in 3000 miles tho so I guess the leaks aren't anything to worry about.
The Honda SilverWing is a 2008 with 18,546 miles on it. It's a 600cc 4 stroke and now runs great! I had to buy a new battery for it. The old one wouldn't hold a charge, much less take a charge. While waiting for the battery to arrive from Ebay I pulled the truck up to the garage and hooked up the jumper cables to check out the lights. They all worked. Just for the heck of it I figured I'd try to start it. It turned over about three times and popped right off. I thought there would be lots of smoke from sitting that long but it purred like a kitten. That made me all the more antsy for the battery to get here. I guess Florida doesn't have oxygenated gas, or my sister never used it. I dumped some SeaFoam into the tank just in case.
When the battery arrived I took it to the gas station and filled it up and took it for a spin. I rode around town for a while to get the feel of her and after about 1/2 hour I went onto the highway. I have to watch the speedometer quite a bit. I got up to 80-85 before I realized I was going that fast. I did find out from using the GPS that the speedo is about 5 mph fast at highway speeds. The 80-85 was actually 75-80 according to the GPS. Anyway, it runs good and it's feels good to be back on 2 wheels.
Sorry about this mostly off topic post.
