NP-246 problem verified by GM (sort of)

They guarded the case with their lives. Didn't get to inspect the case, but it didn't show any signs of a leak which is strange. No residue or grime on it.
Plus, even with their claim of "lack of maintenance", it's a sealed system just like your axles. The oil has to go somewhere, and if it sprung a leak that means it's defective in my books.

Maybe they messed up the old shaft trying to put u-joints in it. Maybe while they were doing the transfer case some ran it over with another car or truck. Maybe a technician having a bad day picked it up and threw it.

Thos maybes are all well and fine. But, you NEVER replace something and not document it or not tell the owner. That is not a good business practice. You have to keep a paper trail of where every part went to for accounting purposes, and that inludes placing it on the owners bill to show where the part was used.
I'm starting to think you guys work for GM..

you can't make any sense of it and its your story; how can anyone else.
Why you think it should be a warranty issue on an 8 year old truck is interesting. No manufacturer would cover this.

Checking fluids once in awhile is a requirement, no matter what the owners manual says.
And taking notice of strange noises is also required.
I hope GM did not foot the bill on this one.
