Oil Consumption - 2007 Chevy Silverado LTZ Crew Cab
I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado LTZ Cre Cab 4x4 with a 5.3 engine. This week for the first time my Engine Oil level message came on indicating low oil level. It has been apporx 5,000Ks since my last oil change and my oil life monitor indicates 30% life. The truck has 50,000Ks and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it is normal to add some oil between oil changes.

Do you know how many quarts low it is??? These new trucks can go much longer than the older ones between oil changes, but IMO the oil will still be burned off. My 07 has had that message twice, once it was 3qts low.

My 05 5.3 with 55k miles uses about 1qt , sometimes a little more in about 3k to 5k miles and has since it was new. some oil consumption is normal for all engines.
I use synthetic 10w30 and run it till the oil life monitor says 0% or untill 7500 miles and usually go through 2 qts between changes.
Ive only got the low oil message once when i neglected to check it every couple weeks like i normally do, and it was about 1.5 qts low.

I put a qt in and the dipstick was at halfway.

It was only less than ltr low. I put in a whole ltr and the dipsticlk indicated halfway. Also, this was the first time I used Synthetic in the engine. I was just wondering if that would make a difference . I have also heard the the Enginws with the Active Fuel Management tend to burn a little more oil. Have you heard of this?

I have a 07 NBS 5.3 with 110000 miles on it (purchased with 36K on odometer) have used Castrol 5w30 Edge in it since purchase and change oil & filter at 10000 mile intervals. Have never had to add oil between changes or had the oil level down on the stick.
Before anyone makes any comments, I will tell you that I use the truck in the "hot shot" business and drive with some kind of load in the bed at least half the time.
