Default oil pressure gauge

2001 1500 silverado 5.3 4x4; the oil pressure gauge was showing low pressure, i changed the oil sending unit did not help,at idle the pressure will drop to 20 sometimes lower, when i press the accel. pressure goes to 40, what could be other issues.

buddy said it could be the gauge cluster, but the oil pressure gauge is the only gauge that is affected [>:]

thanks woody

Just a couple of questions;

1. Did the pressure suddenly go low? or did you just notice it one day?
2. How many miles are on it?
3. I hate asking this, but, did you check the oil level? (you didn't state whether you did or not)

yes i thought it lost oil as well but checked it and it is ok, over 140,000, the pressure drops when it idles, for instance the first time it happened i was at a red light, and actually heard something wrong looked up and the pressure was like at 2 so i stepped on the brake and reved the engine to bring the pressure back up, now when i am driving it stays just over 40 sometimes dropping a little below 40.

[&o] thanks

I would say its typical to be that low, my '95 just rolled over 100k and warm the oil pressure sits at 20 idling and around 40 driving. I talked to a local mechanic about itand he said as long as it stays above 15 it wouldn't hurt anything to be that low.
