Ok guys, first post and it's about P0449. Sorry... I did a search and have come up with many different issues it could be.

This is the situation...
2008 Silverado Z71 5.3

Check engine and Auto Zone says P0449 and to get a new gas cap. That didn't help at all and that's when I started looking here. I also have trouble putting gas in the truck. The gas backs up and the nozzle clicks off. have to pump really slow.

Also, what can I get to read/clear these codes myself? Is it possible to get a programmer/code reader?

evap canister purge solenoid.

 

i had the same problem.i have a 2006.you will need a new evap sensor located by the gas tank.your local dealer can supply you with a new sensor,hose,clamps,and filter.its an easy fix.about $90

i guess i will look into both of those and see if I need the sensor or the solenoid.

Also when I search for part numbers on purge solenoid I'm getting a few different results. Anybody know the part numbers for what I need to replace?
