Hey
I have a 2006 Silverado with 17" aluminum alloy wheels i was woundering if these wheels can be polished. I would need to sand some parts that are really bad but i just wanted to make sure it can be done with wheels with no priore polish. I have looked all over the net but have found nothing in regards to the wheels i have. I know they are not steel wheels.
Thanks

Meguiar's, Mother's and Eagle One each offer decent wheel cleaners that work on just about any finish.
You can also try Griot's Garage - but you'll pay. Oh will you pay!!

You can polish them up like chrome if you want... All you need is a little elbow grease. I just refinished a set of aftermarket wheels last year. First sand them down with 100-200 grit sandpaper until you see no pitting. Then step that down until you get to like 400-600 grit. This will leave you with a smooth coat. Then use a buffing wheel on a high speed electric drill with some rouge(I'm not sure on the spelling). This is what I did and it took about 3 hours to refinish 4 16.5 inch deep dish rims like chrome. Then before I put them on the truck I used a liquid metal polish that is supposed to protect them too and bolted on. I chose not to clear coat because they have offroad tires on them and rocks will chip it all apart. I just polish with a mothers powerball and liquid polish every spring to get rid of winter grime, and every fall to put a good protective coat of polish for the winter and they stay like brand new.
