Popping in front end when cornering or hitting bumps
I bought a used 2004 chevrolet 2500 4x4 and immediately noticed it makes a pop sound when turning or hitting bumps, even more oftn when turning and hitting a ump at the same time. The pop or thunk come from the front end but I cant determine which side, it may be both. It nevr does it when driving on the highway or just going straight down the road does anyone have any idea what may be causing this thunking soud that I am hearing.
I have a 98 2500 ext cab long bed. Not real sure, but look at your shocks for loose or missing bushing or lower bolts. check ur stablizer links, and sway bar bushings. Again mine were worn, causing the front end to be really loose and noisey, while u are there grab the calipers and see if they are loose also
Take a look behind your front wheels to see if the boot of the CV joint is torn up, cracked, or anything of that nature. It sounds to me like those axles or joints are wearing out.
Just my .02c and limited experience, but it couldn't hurt to look.

My '02 2WD just started making the noise that you describe about 6 months ago with over 200K miles and I had the upper and lower ball joints replaced and it fixed the problem. Pretty expensive at around 550 bucks.
