Default problems with my 1990 pickup

hey guys.
i had my chevy for a while now and always had problems with my driver side door closing.
always had to slam it to close it.
and now, the handle is entirely falling out, hanging out half and i could probably pull it out pretty easily.
now heres my question
if i buy a door handle off the internet will i just need the cover or the entire mechanism for it.

thanks

ok, you have 2 separate issues here. One is causing the other. your door closing issue could be your latch or your striker (thats the post on the jam.)you can adjust the striker using a torx bit. be carefull not to unscrew it any more than it takes to adjust. the doors on the older trucks sag at the hinges causing the alignment to go out.
as for the handle, its a unit job, the whole thing has to be replaced. its a pain in the A$$, but I did both of mine in about an hour. there are 2 bolts, one on the edge of the door, the other you have to take the door panel off to get to using a 10mm socket and an extension. Good luck, any questions shoot me a message

Cool

Carefully check your door hinges to see if they're distorted a little.

Many detailers at auctions are none to careful, and many times a vehicle is pushed down a wash/wax/detail line with the engine off and the doors open to be used as levers to push the car to the next detail station.

Did you buy your pickup used?

I have a problem that might be similar. The latch on my driver's door won't lock properly. The door is always 'ajar'. Seems like something is broken in the latch. How difficult is it to replace these things? I have power windows/power locks, I tried to get a used latch at my local pull-a-part place but it was a nightmare and I gave up.
