Default radio lights stock '97

Has any one replaced the lights ina G.M. radio on a '97 model. One by one they have gone out over the last few months. It works well, (apparently it does'nt take much to please me) I would hate to replace it just for that.
Thanks.
David

You mean the AC Delco unit, about 5-6in wide by 2-3in tall? Tape or Cd player?

You could get the dealer to send the radio out for repair and they can replace all the lights rather than replacing the entire unit

I have before. I had the same problem. If you are handy with a soldering iron, then its not too bad. It takes very small 12volt lamps. I think there were 10 of them. The ones I used came two in a pack for 1.99 at Radio shack. They were a little smaller than the factory lamps but they still work good. I did this about 4 years ago on my 95 silverado and they still light up. I have the factory cd changer and i didn't want to attract any thieves by installing a aftermarket deck. You have to get the radio out of the dash, remove the *****, then remove the face. Then you unscrew the face circuit board to access the bulbs. you should be able to figure it out. The Bulbs are soldered in there. All i did was heat up the leads to the burnt out bulbs, pull them out, slip in the leads to the new bulbs in and melt the existing solder to connect them. It took me about an hour to do the whole job.

You can find the replacements on ebay for about $20 for the set. You can also find a repair service online that will replace them for you. I think they charge $30 plus you ship the radio to them.

Thank you guys for all the advise. I think I will thy the radio shack bulb swap. I like soldering irons, anything you can burn you name with is ok by me. Now all I have to do is get one of my sons to pull the radio for me,..sounds like a good fathers day present.
Thanks again.

The reason I asked was because I have the one with the built in tape deck that I replaced it with a factory one with the CD player, if you interested in just replacing it.
