REAR AXLESHAFT MOVING BACK AND FOR
hi all
i have a metal cluncking noise coming fromt he rear of my truck, when on bumps or just crappy road.
comes from behind my right hand shoulder and from the back.
i checked on the rear wheels today, and the passenger side one had cluncking noise when wiggled vertically. felt like hub is moving. so, i disassembled the brakes and got to the hub itself. just to find that hub moves back and for along with the axleshaft, maybe 3-4 mm. accompanied by fairly loud knock, of course.
my question is: what's wrong? sounds like i have to remove axleshaft to do anything, and i am in no mood of messing with differential to disconnect it.
can i possibly just retighten the adjustment nut on the axleshaft? how much of a hassle is to deal with that nut?

RE: REAR AXLESHAFT MOVING BACK AND FOR
i guess, we all are going to learn something out of this.
i took truck to vic's frame, axle, and alignment here. mike is about the only mech that i trust and know for about 13 yrs.
he checks truck out, comes back, gives me key back, gives me that look, and says" what exactly is that you want? there's nothing wrong with it".
me goes" well, the axle goes back and for". he says "supposed to. no up/down play, some in/out play. yours is equal on both sides, supposed to be that way. nothing wrong with it".
appreciate y'alls input.
