it depends how high you want to lift it. A 2-4 inch block will be ok but bigger than that they fail too easily. On my vehicle i wont go any bigger than a 2inch, but i drive exceptionally hard and have lost my rearend a couple times because of blocks.
If your just raising for looks and dont do any serious offroading, blocks are fine and cheaper

sometimes i carry heavy loads in my bed and it sags a bit. would the add a leafs stiffen that up to carry more?

yeah it'll stiffen them up but it also stiffens the ride up to where it'll ride like crap...i went with the blocks and am gonna get some kinda helper whether it be the hellwig helper springs or the timbren load boosters

if you buy the right springs. you can add springs and make it ride real stiff. u can get them cheap if you look around.
