Default Remote Start

I have a 09 GMC Sierra crew cab. What does it take to add OEM remote start to my truck?

Start by checking for RPO code AP8 in the glove box. If you don't have that, you have to go aftermarket.
Most dealers sell the OE starter for about $275cnd installed. You might be able to find it cheaper online but you must bring it to the dealer to have to programming anyways.

Thanks Shawn.

I do have code AP8. Where can go online to buy the OE starter? I figure I can probably save a little money by installing it myself and then having them just do the programming.

Because of the multiplexer system in this truck the install of aftermarket system is extremly complicated and will be expensive to install. Unless you install alarms and remote start for a living you are better off paying someone to install it. If something goes wrong you will end up spending more money than the orginal install would have been. Also you can not use any old remote start set up. Most everything is done through the data bus line on these trucks and does not work on a 12 volt signal to each device.

MDTAHOE...its all in the by-pass. Using the right one makes a remote starter a 1 hour install.

Sharpvet...there is no install required, you have a to buy a kit which it basically just 2 remotes, and an authorization number that the dealer uses to have GM release special software to unlock the remote start feature. I have neevr bought it online but like I said, it will be probably just as expensive to go through the dealer
