Replacing front brake pads
I am about to change the front brakes on my 1999 C1500. This is the older version of Chevy trucks as compared to the 1999 Silverado. Not sure how many know there is a difference.
My question is about the ABS system. I've done plenty of disc brake jobs. But this truck (from pictures I've seen online) has a funny looking rotor. So I am wondering if there are any special techniques or things to avoid or do different with this job as opposed to regular disc brake versions.

idk if 1999 is different from my 1995.. but mine all you do is unbolt the caliber and the brake pads just clip in.. very simple..but like i said.. im not sure about 1999

I don't think there is any difference. I know the look is the same. I do have a funky (at least I've read) vortec fuel injection that was only on 98 and 99. It doesn't work well for me - but that's off topic.
The brake rotor seems to have some sort of gear teeth inside. They are very expensive as well, so I was wondering what else might be different.

brakes
There is quite a discussion as to wheither forcing the old fluid back thru the system when you push the caliper cyls back can damage the antilock system. I have seen systems damaged by this. At the same time I have seen many brake jobs done with no bad results. I personaly clamp off the lines and open the bleeders. Care must be taken not to damage the lines. They make a small vise for this but they are hard to find. The gear like thing on your rotor is for the antilock brake sensors to pick up signals.

So the antilock brake thing doesn't change anything? Also I think this rotor is of the type that I have to remove, clean, inspect, and repack the front bearings - right? I haven't had to do this since my 1980 F150.
