Default Replacing headlights 1997 chev silverado

Hello I'm trying to replace the headlights on my 97 silverado. Do I have to pull the front grill to replace them????? Any advice on this procedure would be helpful. Thanks in advance Spursky.

They used sealed beams in those years, didn't they? The retaining ring around the headlamp is usually secured with 3 or 4 screws that are accessible through the grille opening. Be careful not to overtightening the screws or you may be making a trip to the heardware store for an oversized screw.

I believe that SOME of the trucks in that generation used glass sealed-beam type headlights where you replace the entire lens (about $8 each, I think).

Others had the plastic composite type where you only replace the bulb that goes inside from the rear of the housing. They're a little more costly and you have to be sure NOT to touch the element at all with your fingers - or the oil on your skin will make it burn out as soon as you turn it on.

I've seen two different kinds of front ends on those trucks.

P.S. Can you attach a photo of your '97 so we can see it?
