Default scratch on backside of side mirror

i put a pretty good scratch on the backside of my side mirror - on the top half of it that is painted the same color as my truck.

is that piece just a skin that can be replaced or do i just need to have the entire peice painted at a body shop?

thanks

Probably need to have a paint shop do it, if you get from the dealership you will probably have to buy the whole mirror and the plastic cover will probably unpainted anyway.

If its an 07 or 08, its a skin thats attached (I believe) with 3M tape, the painted ones only come in a set as far as I know, go to the dealer and ask, a set runs about $100-150 depending on color/finish and whether they install it or not, if its just a paint scratch, get a $4 bottle of touch up and do it yourself, or go to an autoparts store and get a 3M polishing compound and try to get it out BY HAND.Unless its to the plastic, then touch up.

The newest body style is a removable piece. It clips in. You can buy the "cap" on e-bay in your paint color.

What color do you have?

No idea, I have didnt want color matched anything, as my truck is already black, no need to pay extra for some paint when I'll probably line-x most of the ABS (on the front end atleast). You can see from my icon, I even went as far as to take off the standard chrome bumper. I haven't made any mods to mine yet, I dont even know how the front emblem is put on, I want to say 3M because I didnt feel any nuts, just plastic, but I could be wrong. I *believe* the caps are 3M though.
