Default Service 4WD

I have an 05' Silverado Crew Cab with 67000 miles on it, and recently the "Service 4WD" comes up on my display. The problem is that when it it comes up, I do not have any lights on the 2WD/4WD selector area and I can't change it unless I turn the truck off a time or two and the lights come back on. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem before I spend a bunch of money at the dealership?

I had the same problem with my 99 Silverado at around that same mileage. Turned out it was the switch (easy to install). But you know, it's a hit and miss proposition. You can get a switch on-line gmpartsdirect.com for about $50.
