Hey Guys! Looks like I may inherit an 81 chevy stepside pickup, so I am wanting to start investigating some things. I want to build a high performance 292 just to be different but I really want to put a 700R4 behind it. Is that possible?
I would appreciate any and all comments and advice. Looking forward to enjoying the site.
Thanks........glad summer is here!!

I was told the bellhousing would be the same, but the person telling me said the torque converter wholes wont line up with the flywheel. What's your opinion? Do they make a flywheel for 292 with torque converter wholes for a 700R4?
Thanks Maxxman04

you might be able to use a plate from early 80's camaro with 700r4. has to be from v8 car tho. actually, i believe th350's and the r4's share the same plate.

Hi Stoney1964,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

I moved your thread to the proper section, and posted to bring it to the top of the field.

Good luck with the 292.(Is that a buzzin' half dozen?)

Default Found a 292 motor

I have found a 292 6cyl, so now to make the plans. I wanted to build it up and get some fun performance out of it but for now I think I am going to run with it like it is.
I dont have carb for it and it looks like the harmonic balancer outside ring it starting to rub against timing cover but hasnt done any damage.
I would like to know what carb I need for it and recommendations on finding a harmonic balancer.
My motor number is 3851659 GM stamp, non script valve cover, intake number 3859381 exhaust number 3820578
Thanks guys!
