Default speed sensor?

92 chevy silverado k1500 5.7 4x4. im having a shifting issue. it seems like it wants to drop in lowest gear possible, which is wayyy too low because it seems like it wants to flood or bog down. could that be the cause of a bad speed sensor? also my speedometer is 5 miles fast...
