Hi guys, got a 2001 Chevy Silverado1500 5.3 L vortec, driving home from work the other day it started making a noise when turning either direction, now with the truck in park, you can barley move the steering wheel and the noise is there, got out and manually turned steering shaft, you can see the ps lines jump up and down, I removed the ps reservoir cap and manually turned steering shaft the noise is really loud, there are no leaks, fluid is full and when throttled up the noise increases. It makes the noise like your tire rubbing on your fender shroud

 

Get a listening rod which can be a short wood dowel or other material and press one end of the rod on the pump and listen on other end for the sound. if its real loud then your due for a new pump or rebuilt. Check e-bay for your best prices
