Default Stripped sparkplug hole

I have a 1996 chevy shortbed with a 4.3 vortec and I have a sparkplug that keeps backing out because the hole is stripped. Is there a fix with out replacing the head? maybe some kind of sleeve insert modification? If it would mean replacing the head I would rather replace the engine thus it already has 256,xxx miles.

No matter what you do to fix this, the head has to be removed to do it.

not sure if a HeliCoil would work in your situation, sounds like the threads are GONE, so you cant use a thread chaser. might have to take the head off to fix

They sell heli coils for spark plugs. You can do it with the head on. 5.4l Fords blow the spark plugs out all the time. They sell a special insert for those (will not work for your application). We drill and tap the hole with the head on all the time. You must set the engine up so both valves are closed, drill it, tap it then blow the metal out out cylinder with an air compressor.

so you think the helicoil would work, or you saying it should get the hole bored out and put new threads at the next plug size up?
