I want to replace the stock shocks on my 2006 1500 Z71. I was thinking of the Rancho ES500, but am not sure exactly which ones to buy, or if there is a better shock..

I saw a note about there being a 4" front lift on the Rancho shocks, but the truck is at stock height, and I'm about to pick up a set of 285/70R17 tires as well.. I'd like to replace both at the same time to minimize my garage time..


Any suggestions?

Just wanted to add, a co-worker has recco'd Bilstein HD shocks over the Rancho ES500's.. They do cost a bit more, but he said the ride off-road was very solid and stable, and the paved road performance was like driving on a cloud... The extra money doesn't matter if the shock is that good..

What type of wheelin do you do?

Rancho's RS5000 are good shocks and plenty good for most. The Bilstein are much better.

Rancho also makes the RS9000 adjustable. Order either for a stock height vehicle, the 4" lift shock is for lifted vehicle they make it for stock.

I stay mostly on paved, but do occasionally venture off roading...but nothing too extreme. I'm thinking the extra $45 for the Bilsteins may be worth it.. Now I need to figure out if 285/70R17 tires will fit without a lift kit.. Any ideas on that? I don't want to order the tires, and then not be able to turn the truck...

Go check out tires at TireRack, they may have some ideas for you.

No two trucks are the same, but that tire works out to 32.7 inches from the size, though mounted it can vary from brand to brand and wheel to wheel. I would say you should be fine with that size as long as your stock suspension is not sagging. The only sure way is to get the exact tire you want mounted on your wheels and check it out.

I plan on going to Bilstein on both of my Broncos, let me know how yours work out.
