Question Timing Chin Question/Problem.

hey guys im having a problem with getting my timing chain back on. It's a new chain, crank gear, and cam gear. I have had the timing chain on before but i had to take it off because the cam was 180 out. ive been messing with this for a little over a day now. I can't get the bolt holes to line up with the cam gear holes. The chain seems a little tight but nothing to bad. if anyone can help me that would be grately appreciated.

thank you.

did you loosen the rockers off? what kind of timing chain are you using (if not a cloys adjustable then keep following) all u need to do is line the dots up. get the bottom gear on first with the dot pointing up, then install the cam gear with the timing chain on it and dot down, now slip the chain onto bottom gear with the dots lined up with each other and bolt the cam up, take a second look to make sure the dots are lined up perfectly, if not then repeat the process untill they are lined right

atm i dont have lifter or rockers on. the chain is not adjustable. my cam, cam gear, crankgear, and chain are all elgin "i beleave that is how you speel it" but when i get the chain on the bolts for the cam gear wont like up so i can bolt the gear on and im not sure why this is because when i put it on the first time it sliped right on and then bolted down easy.

also is the #1 piston supposted to be at TDC with it dot to dot? my book said something about going off the #6 pistion or something like that.

thanks.

yes, sorry forgot to mention that #1 cyl is suposed to be at TDC if the bolts for the cam gear wont line up, then turn the cam, u are adjusting the cam to TDC of the engine, so just turn the cam, after that is done the distributor rotor points at #1 cyl while at #1 TDC for starting then tune from there
