Torque conv. drain plug
Hi all new to forum. Asking a Q for someone else for might now have all the info but i want to know if a 1988 c1500 1/2 ton 5.7 4x2 has a torque converter drain plug on it. If not, anyone have any ideas on how to drain it? Thanks.
The best way is to have the system flushed, so that the fluid in the TC is pushed out and replaced with fresh fluid....
as for the views and no respones, keep in mind others may have the same concern and were viewing to see if it might have answered their question...

If it goes in, gets used and a need for a change, it has to come back out...Somehow..
Viewing it with 1 post showing and it being from the OP? lol.....

In regards to the statement of "if it goes in it must come out", you are forgetting about the front pump. Remember the transmission uses hydraulic pressure for everything from engaging the torque converter to engagement of gears. This pressure is generated by pump(s) in the transmission which gets the fluid to all the places in the tranny it needs to go.
So there are only a few ways to drain ALL the fluid out of a transmission:
1) If equipped, which I don't believe Chevys are, a drain plug for the torque converter.
2) Drop the tranny and pull the torque converter off and drain it manually (Seems like a lot of work to drain fluid).
3) Have the system flushed. I would recommend the dealer and let them use factory fluid. If you go to a local mechanic, they will add fluid (that they swear is the same as the dealer fluid) they have in stock. You can pay extra to have GM fluid used. But at that point, you might as well pay the stealership to do it.
Hope this helps
