Hey,

When I shift into gear, from P to D or from D to R, the idle drops and the truck seems almost like it it going to stall, but doesnt, the RPM drops then rises just as quickly. Any idears?!

CAUSE ITS CARBED........LOL.....WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF CARBS...... no really most vehicles will do this, only fuel injected it is not as pronounced, carb you will notice it more as they have hard time running at idle let alone when you put throtttle to it, LOL

I wouldn't waste much time listening to the guy above.

Check your throttle linkage for any binging and also hit it with a decent lube like WD40.
Make sure that your idle is adjusted properly, there is a stop screw that you can make this adjustment with, set it at 600RPM at idle in gear.

You may also need a thorough tune-up, engines that aren't running 100% will sometimes idle fine but as soon as a load is placed on the motor it stumbles and stammers.

And lastly; check for vacuum leaks.

the motor was just tuned up, new plugs, wires and such. it has a new alternator.

it does idle at 600 when in gear, but it goes from 600, then i put it into gear, it drops for a second then shoots back to 600...

how do i check for vauum leaks?!

Yeah, well when I sit at a stop for a while with my 92' silverado(305 EFI),it drops down in rpms too.It goes down to about 200 rpms and doesn't sound like it's going to stall.Donno what your problem is man.Mine also does it when I shift into reverse but its never stalled.

I like how this guy thinks WD40 is a lubricant! Use something that doesn't dry in 24 hours.
