Transmission Oops

I starting my 2004 Z71 truck this morning and noticed it was in 4-Lo. I tried shifting to 4-hi, but the light just keep blinking and blinking. Instead of shutting off the truck, I put it in drive while the light was still blinking. I heard a expensive sounding grinding noise when I did this. What did I do to my transmission. I am having it towed to the dealer today. Any ideas on why the truck was in 4-Lo?
Thanks,
Thanks,

I'm pretty sure your supposed to put the transmission in neutral to shift into and out of 4L. There should be a description of that in your owners manual. Sorry I can't help you with the question of how much damage you did (if any) or how it got into 4L in the first place.

I had the switch on my tranny go bad that would not let my truck change from 2 to 4 so hopefully it is just an electrical issue. That should be under warranty right?

Our button selector panel went out and ours was changed under extended warranty.
Reverse and forward will help to release the 4L, as long as its not an electrical issue.
Operation in mud or freezing condition could cause the mechanical aspect of it to be sticky. I've had issues while deer hunting in the mud.
Those grinding noises can be and do sound expensive! LOL
