Default Transmission question 97 silverado

hey guys i have a 97 silverado 242,000 miles on the engine. no trouble with the engine it still feels strong and sounds great, but the tranny was replaced about 10,000 miles ago by the previous owner. my question is, does the tranny suppose to sound like a remote control car or is there a problem with it. i grew up in chevys and i never remember my dad's soundin like that, mines is the 4.3 v6 and he always had the v8 but im sure its not suppose to sound like that. once i get in 3rd and about 2500rpms it stops makin the windin sound. any thoughts?

My stepdad had a 95 Cheyenne, 4.3 5-speed, first gear had a whine, after that nothing. The trans was rebuilt at 85,000miles. Thats when the whine started, sold it with 225,000miles with the whine, never hurt nothing in it. With yours whining in the first 3 gears, sounds like something could be slightly outta whack.

You don't have a dipstick for a stickshift trans.
