Default Truck Accessories for a 2010

Hello all.
I just bought a 2010 Silverado 1500 crew cab. I have been trying to find 2 accessories and have been unsuccessful. I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction in finding these items. First item I am looking for is the visor for over the windshield, preferably one with lights. Second accessory I am looking for is a cab extender "Lund racer back". I called Lund and they informed me that they are no longer making these items and they are discontinued. They also informed me that another company has taken over manufacturing the visor. I called the other company and they only manufacture up to an 08. Is Lund the only company that makes these two accessories? I understand accessories are going to be harder to find as the truck is a newer vehicle, but 2011's are coming out, so the truck is essentially a year old at purchase. Does anybody know where I can get these accessories? Will one off of a different make / model / year fit my truck?

On a different note, I am also looking at purchasing the BAK roll up bed cover. Talking to an accessory shop in my area, they are saying there are 2 different styles: 1 is steel covered, the other is plastic. There are also 2 different mountings: 1 is bolt on, the other is clamp on. The difference in price between the plastic and steel is about $400. I am just wondering is the $400 difference worth it? I also had a bed cover on my other truck that was clamp on and I found that after a period of time the clamps would fatigue and loosen and I wound up putting self tapping screws in it because the clamps kept loosening. Have you seen this and what are your recommendations?

Sorry for all the questions right off the bat...I just want to do it right the first time.

Sorry, I am no help in your very specific questions. But, i have an 08 Silverado Crew Cab and just installed a truxedo Trax tonneau cover. I paid about $450.00 (normally $600.00) at a local business in Kissimmee Florida. It is a soft cover but it is able to open and close from one side. Also, It gives me tie down points in the railing system of the cover. I love this thing!!

Anyway, the part that may be helpful, is the mounting system. The Truxdeo uses a clamp style system. This system not only holds the system in place, but allows me to use the tie downs to hold up to a total of 1000 lbs (250lbs per tie down point) of cargo. If I discover the bolts backing out, I plan on putting lock tite on it. No problems so far though!!

Hope this helps

Eric.

Hi imkzru,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

Sharing information here at CF is what it's all about. Don't be shy, share what you know.

I look at the cover situation like this. You're probably doing this to improve gas mileage, hence save money. Therefore, unless you have a security issue, I'd go with the soft cover and save yourself a schweet! 400$ right up front.

Thank you all for your replies.

I had a soft cover on my Dodge when I lived in Maryland but after time the clamps worked lose and I had to tighten them. Then again they worked lose. I finally screwed the rails to the bed to fix the issue hence why I was asking here.

As far as the cab extender I found a metal/laser cutting shop in Jackson TN that can make me one to my specs out of stainless steel for around $900. What I plan on having them do is make it like the racerback from Lund, but on the side cut a chevy symbol with flames over it. I'm going to fill the hole with clear resin and light it up in purple from the back. I'm also going to have the bed rails put on, but they will be bulleted and welded to the cab extender making it all one piece. I also plan on putting a spoiler on top of the cab extender. I will try and take pics when it is done, but I have to put side steps on the truck first so the wife can get into it easier. I am really hesitant on a soft cover because of my location. I live in TN now, and we have a winter "unlike FL" and soft covers get hard and brittle in the winter months making them difficult to remove. I actually ripped the one I had on my Dodge when trying to remove it during the winter. Have they gotten better?

I have no idea what I am going to do about a visor. I would really love to add one.

On a side note, Kissimmee? I lived in Apopka for 10 years when I worked for the rat..spent many a day at Old Town.

Regarding the "soft cover" from Truxedo. I had a friend that had one for a few years and had NO problems with it. Unfortunately, he also lives in "FL" The mechanism is pretty easy, and I am having difficulty trying to figure out how it would freeze. My best guess for a freezing point would be where it latches (where any metal might freeze in heavy winter). However, half of that component is a heavy duty plastic. And if it did freeze, that mechanism is (by design) at the tailgate. So you could easily unfreeze it. There are also (in my application) two rods going across the bed to stabilize it. I would guess this would hold up the snow just fine. As long as you clear the snow off regularly. I would really suggest taking at look at one (truxedo) on a truck (possibly at a truxedo dealer).

Again my sister had a lower cost cloth/vinyl bed cover and it was a piece of **it. After a friend (the same as above) got this brand, I really like it and bought one for myself when I got my Chevy

Side note - I live on the east coast. Although I just vacationed up in the N. Carolina by Tenn. (Maggie Valley). Would love to move up there. To HOT here. I will have to go in my truck and get the business card of the business that I got the cover from. Let me know if you want the info.

I can't wait to see the pics of the other upgrades you are planning. They sound awesome.
