- Chevrolet Silverado GMT800, GMT900, and K2XX Why Does My Key Fob Not Work?
Guide to diagnose trouble and recommended solutions

Trying to program key fob, 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500
I have the right codes in my glove box for keyless entry but I can’t enter programming mode and the symptoms of a bad BCM seem far worse than just not being able to gain access to keyless entry. Are you positive it’s the BCM because I don’t want to spend $200 on something i don’t need to
I realize this is old but I been having same issue, after reading a lot of info I found a forum that said to pull the high beam selector back and hold it instead of the unlock button, it worked on my 2000 model, everything worked perfect ! All steps completed and the new remote cycled when I held both buttons, but the fob still will not work????
Like the title says, I have a 1999 Silverado 1500 that I bought several years ago used, and it had no key fob. Well I finally got around to getting one, but I can't program it.
I've followed all of the steps I've found online (hold the unlock, turn ignition on and off, ect) but the truck will not enter the programming mode. Does anyone have any idea why the truck wouldn't be entering the programming mode? Thanks for any replies!

(I have a 02 Silverado , I tried to cycle while holding unlock button and turning key three times it seems to try but it’s week yet the door locks work fine when you Push the buttons, yet when I hold in the high beams and turn key like suggested it cycles strong but cannot get key to program in, I also pulled the fuses and set for an hour like suggested any help guys?

Like I was saying, typical Chevy weirdness abounds.
Hope this gets ya right.
now, if its a classic style, IE the GMT400/last of the square bodies, pins 4 and 8 in the OBD2 DLC connector require a jumper to enter programming mode.
I just reprogrammed my 1999 Silverado LS Z71 and the directions are as follows:
INSTRUCTION SHEETInstruction_Sheet_Key_Fobs_006
BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
1. Close all the vehicle doors.
PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
2. Press and hold the door unlock switch.
3. While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the
ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
4. Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to
confirm the program mode.
5. Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simulta-
neously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 sec-
onds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of
that transmitter.
6. Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the key-
less entry transmitter mode.
8. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system
operation.
Worth also noting that if the process DOES NOT work at all, you will sadly REQUIRE dealership programming.
The dealer so far as I know is the ONLY place to program keys if the vehicles been stolen or the chip doesnt match the PCM or whatnot.
also, the website I found my own programming instructions on is:
