Upgrade from 4.8 to 6.0 Aluminum Head
My Silverado is a 2003 4.8 Liter with about 140,000 miles. I've had the tranny rebuild, transfer case seals replaced, bilstein 5100, cold air intake, dynaflow exhaust, throttle body spacer, diablo programmed and few other upgrades.
I am contemplating purchasing a new 5.3 crate engine from Summit.
My close friend mechanic buddy is suggesting that if I'm going to upgrade then to instead put in a 6.0 liter LQ9 with aluminum heads.
He said nearly all my upgrades will be compatible and that the wiring harness might present the only issue. Needless to say the 6.0L would be my top choice but NOT if it's going to be a hodge podge type of end results
Has anyone out there experienced this replacement and were there any negatives outcomes that you can share.
I thought the upgrade to a 5.3 would be pretty basic. Needless to say the performance aspect is a consideration but would like to know what other considerations I should know about.
Thanks for whatever experience you can share before I make this decision.
thanks much.
Steve
