v-6 to v-8 swap

i have a 97 c1500 with a 4.3 and im swaping in a 454 and i want to use the stock dash. i need to know how to make the tachometer work. can anyone help?

Find the tach wire under the hood a tap it into the negative side of the new ignition coil.

does that mean that i can take a v8 tach cluster and swap it to my v6 and just hook the coil?
