Default want to lower the back end of my truck

I have a 2008 silverado 2wd crew cab that has the all american package(20" wheels) and I want to know what is the best way to lower the back end by either shackles or blocks and want to know all the pros and cons because I still want to keep a good riding truck

a friend of mine has an 04 single cab short bed and used lowering shackles on his and he did not lose any ride quality, plus he can see twice as far at night now

My 07 new extended is the same, it sits higher then some 4X4's. What is the reason for a 2X4 to be so high, the blocks don't have any performance enhancing value, is there something I'm over looking?
