98 gmc 1500 z71 ext cab with a 3rd door. It has a cold ac looks in pretty good shape. However it has 200k miles with original parts, I can hear a tapping vibration noise from the back of the engine. Guy is asking $5600 and blue book said $5200 but the engine scares me a ill bit. Any thoughts on how long she may run and what I should offer?

 

hard to say value. it depends on the area, market, condition. look around in your area and get an idea what a truck like this is actually selling for. ask the seller if you can have a good, reputable mechanic take a look at the truck. if seller refuses, walk away. personally, i'd wonder why he is asking the top end of book value. to me, truck better be in brand new condition, with nothing wrong. JMO

 

Don't pay more than Blue Book value. He is probably asking so much to leave himself some negotiating room. This is a truck that you can easily find. Don't jump at it unless your are 100% sure it is worth it. There are many trucks like it for sale.

 

In June I bought a 2000 silverado 3 dr with 5.3 V8, in excellent shape, interior and exterior looks new, also has bed liner and bed cover, has 65,000 miles on it. I paid $8500 for it.
