I bought a new 2006 Silverado 2500 4X4 and am already unhappy with the whimpy looking 16"stock tire and wheel combo.Not only do I want to go with a more offroad looking tire, I'm thinking of moving up to a 20" aftermarket wheel. However Iheard going to a bigger wheelcan screw up the tranny and ABS and maybe other things if not done right. Is this true? Is it more trouble than it's worth?

Why not stay with the 16" and just go to a beefier tire. Try a 33X12.5X16, they will fill your wheel well up, look awsome, and won't mess anything up on your vehicle. I had them on my Dodge 1500 Offroad and loved them. Put the bottom of the door 30" off the ground.

 

Is this gas or diesel? The gas and diesel will be safe with 285/75-16 tires on the stock rims. Anything bigger, you are going to need new rims with the proper offset. Even the 285's are pushing it on a stock rim.

 

It's a gas truck but 285/75-16s will not fit. That's a 33" tire and it willgrind against the front wheel wells when turning. I looked into it and the newSilverado 2500 4X4scan't take tires much bigger than the whimpy 30.5" set that comes as stock. I swapped out theawful looking 16"stock rims for a nice set of 18" wheels but could only go up to 31.5 inch tires (285/60-18), and even then the tire shop had to grind down the plastic piece that lines thefront wheel wells. Apparently the way the wheel wells aredesigned the only way to puton bigger tires is to add a lift kit.A fewtire peoplesaid that raising the front by acouple inches with aleveling kit would allow 33" tires but other shops said I would need a full 4" lift.What a freakin' disappointment! It's my own fault for not checking ahead of time.I guess I should have bought a Dodge.
