I used a air saw. Was a clean cut and was able to make turns easy with it plus the blade is alot smaller then most sawzall blades.

now I must decide to trim on an 09 or try the heat gun.......

I would just trim it. If it isnt rubbing that bad then you should be fine. Mine isnt even noticable unless you decided to get down and look for it. from the side you would never notice and probably wouldnt even notice if you kneeled down and looked down in there unless you had another one to compare it too.
