Z71 vs Z71 Off-Road
#11
I know this is 2 years later, but this is what the Z71 package has to offer. Salespeople should be able to tell you this. It's also located at a website that GM has called the online order guide.
Same load carrying capacity springs as Z83
Increased rate springs, shock absorbers, jounce bumpers and stabilizer bar
Red color Monroe Shock Absorber Tubes (high pressure gas charged with 46mm piston dia.)
Includes extensive chassis equipment shields (NZZ); (front underbody, front differential case, 4WD transfer case, fuel tank, engine oil pan)
"Z71" decal
Heavy duty air cleaner (K47)
Special removable front air dam
Wider aspect, aggressive tread tires for maximum traction in loose soil
Available on 1500 Series 4WDw/SLE or SLT Decor
Benefits Provides for the rigors of off-highway driving. Designed to accommodate large suspension inputs with minimal impact to highway ride and handling. Also, provides chassis component shields.

The Detailed Equipment Summary for my truck indicates Z71 is the factory added option code.
Z71 - off road suspension package: * off road skid plates * high capacity air cleaner * front recovery hooks

Everyone decided to add "off road" to their badging. Toyota Racing Development (TRD) Off Road....you'll see this on their Tacoma 4x4's. I think Ford has off road as well. It's marketing.

Yes, of course the sticker is marketing. It is Marketing the production order code the vehicle comes with. The truck will have a sticker to indicate whether it's a Z83, Z85 or a Z71. Chrysler, Nissan, Ford, Toyota, etc... have off road and all will market the package that is on the truck.
...and yes Therewolf, I was referring to THIS year not the year he was asking about, thanks for helping to clarify. I was talking more to his concern about the Z71 being merely marketing. It sounded like he felt like he had been taken for a ride and I didn't clarify I was addressing that part of his question. Originally you had answered the question perfectly in regards to RPO's, differences in ride height, etc.. I was actually supporting your comment in that it's representative of something and what the Z71 represents may change through the years because the manufacturers will evolve the trucks over time.

IMO, what's more germane to the actual issue is matching the truck to
the proper usage with which the person is going to use it.
"Z71" is a catchy phrase, and sounds good rolling off the tongue.
It looks cool on the side of your truck. But do you actually need
all that extra gear, weight, and the loss of mileage which comes with it?
If you're really serious about four wheeling, maybe you should order the
RPO codes you really need, and wait a few weeks for the vehicle.
