Default Grounding issues with 97 Chevy Cheyenne 1500

Bare with me here, please. Love my truck would hate to see her go over this, I have been have a grounding issue, currently I have a wire that comes from the alternator to the frame, and another wire that currently is going from frame to frame in the same place the other wire goes, now originally I think the second wire ran to the starter from the firewall, now wires are burning up and nobody is listening to me, ( probably cause I'm a girl) I feel like the problem is that one is a ground wire and one is a hot wire and they shouldn't occupy the same space, anyone with thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, thanx

What size are these wires. There are no ground wires going to the starter. It is grounded to the engine through the starter case itself. The heavy wire goes to the battery. You definitely have a short with wires burning up, but more information is needed.
