Default 2012 Sonic, thermostat housing, and Powertrain Warranty

I have a 2012 auto with 47,500 miles and now a $600 estimate to fix the split air duct and replace the thermostat housing.
It cost me $98 to have the codes checked - the engine light came on as I was driving to work. I didn't want to take any chances on a problem since I have been stranded in this car before, and the dealership is on the way to work.
the powertrain warranty from chevy states: Coverage on the engine cooling system begins at the inlet to the water pump and ends with the thermostat housing and/or outlet that attaches to the return hose.
I read this to mean the thermostat housing should be a covered item under the powertrain warranty. But of course, this wording is located following the exclusions section for what is not covered- Exclusions: Excluded from the powertrain coverage are sensors, wiring, connectors, engine radiator, coolant hoses, coolant, and heater core.
Chevy support says ask the dealer. this explains why half the people on this forum get replacement coverage and half don't. It is left up to the individual dealership to interpret what this means apparently.
legal speak, clear as mud. I will check with a lawyer or 3 and see if they can tell me what the legal definition of 'ends with' actually means.
between the mass complaints for the split air duct on this car, and my guess that it and the thermostat issues are related, it is a shame we cannot get a clear directive from Chevrolet itself on whether or not this 'expensive, re-engineered to be so much better- all in one thermostat housing' is a covered component under the powertrain warranty.
- wanted to love my sonic (loved the chevy dealership I bought it from - Terry Thompson Chevy in Daphne, Alabama), and am even happy with the current dealership I am using (Gerry Lane, Baton Rouge) but multiple issues that keep popping up on a car just barely 4 yrs and 50k miles is making it difficult.

You can get the codes checked free at Auto Zone , O'Reilly and probably Advance Auto .

Save yourself the headache and fix it your self . And change out the antifreeze while you are doing it .

God bless
